Description
Each Varana collection is marked by bespoke textiles designed in our own studio and specially developed for the current theme. The silk jacquard fabric of these striking trousers is inspired by the famed 'Bandhani' tie-and-dye technique from India. Tiny, white circular motifs are dotted on a grid to create a beautifully textured background. The trousers are sharply tailored to end just above the ankle and are finished with side pockets and a front zipper.

Techniques & Inspiration
'Bandhani' is a form of fine tie-and-dye that originated centuries ago in the Kutch desert in India and is still practiced by artisanal communities in the region. The term Bandhani is derived from the Sanskrit word 'bandhan' or 'tie'. Craftswomen, working from their homes, painstakingly tie small knots in fabric. The tied fabric resists the dye and the result is intricate, circular patterns, the exact form of which depends on how the tying was done. We have taken inspiration from this technique and created bespoke silk jacquards, woven with the tiny, circular motifs that are similar to those created by the Bandhani process.
