Ajrakh-inspired silk jacquard trousers
These cropped trousers are expertly cut from a custom-designed, silk jacquard. In keeping with Varanas philosophy of artisanal luxury, the pattern of the textile is inspired by the famed Ajrakh block-printing technique from the Kutch desert region in India. The geometrical motifs and red and blue palette traditionally associated with the technique, have been reimagined afresh. A tonal embroidered stripe down the sides completes the sharply tailored look. Combine with a top in a complementary shade of blue or add a matching jacket, to complete the luxe artisanal look.
Model is 5 feet 9 inches and wears UK size 6
'Ajrakh' is a complex, artisanal technique of block printing and resist dyeing that dates back as early as 2000 BC. The artisan must wash the fabric between dying and wait until he can print the next colour. Many believe that the word 'Ajrakh' is actually derived from the phrase 'Aaj ke din rakh' or 'Keep it for today'; a sentiment quite opposed to today's fast-paced world.
This bespoke silk jacquard has been designed in Varana's own studio and woven with motifs inspired by the 'Ajrakh' technique.
