Ajrakh-inspired Navy & Gold Trench Coat
At Varana, we take inspiration from time-honoured crafts and reimagine them on new fabrics and contemporary silhouettes. This stunning trench is a perfect example of our philosophy.
The intricate pattern on the custom-designed fabric is based on the motifs of a block printing technique called Ajrakh, which originated centuries ago and is still practiced by artisan communities in the Kutch desert of India. The deep navy background is the perfect foil for the rich, gold, geometric motifs. The classic, sharply tailored silhouette has a peaked collar, front pockets, epaulettes, storm flap and fabric belt. A pure silk lining in warm saffron adds the final, polished touch.
Pair with matching pants to complete a standout evening ensemble.

'Ajrakh' is an extremely complex, artisanal technique of woodblock printing and resist dyeing that dates back as early as 2000 BC with the Indus Valley civilisation. A living craft, it continues to be practiced in the desert regions of Sindh in Pakistan and Kutch in Western India.
This contemporary bespoke fabric has been designed in Varana's own studio and woven with motifs inspired by the 'Ajrakh' technique.
