BLACK HAND-PAINTED EMBROIDERED PASHMINA
If there is ever a luxury essential worth stocking up on as winter comes around, it is this stunning hand-painted, hand-embroidered black pashmina shawl.
The bold motifs have been hand- painted on the shawl by an artist in the legendary ‘Kalamkari’ tradition. ‘Kalam’ means ‘pen’ and ‘kari’ means ‘craftsmanship’ and the artist uses wooden or bamboo hand-crafted pens dipped in natural pigments to paint on the fine pashmina.
A layer of incredibly fine stitches have been hand-embroidered around the motifs to accentuate them. The craftsmen have used a time-honoured technique called ‘Sozni’, embroidering each perfect stitch with a fine, thin needle. Mastering this technique takes years of training and these skills have been passed on from generation to generation.
A narrow border runs the length of the shawl and both ends culminate in narrow, multi-coloured stripes. The jewel-like tones seem to glow on the black base.
The fine pashmina makes for an elegant, easy drape and is just the thing to elevate your LBD.

Varana's pashmina is crafted from the finest, purest cashmere obtained from the soft undercoat of the Changthani goats in the Himalayan region. So fine is the wool that it must be gathered, spun and woven by hand. The master craftspeople involved at each step of the process are exceptionally skilled.
The techniques of pashmina shawl weaving and embroidering have been passed on from generation to generation and now only a handful of these skilled artisans are the custodians of this amazing craft.
