RED HAND-PAINTED EMBROIDERED PASHMINA
This festive hand-painted, hand-embroidered red pashmina shawl will liven up any outfit and mood.
The bold motifs have been hand- painted on the shawl by an artist in the legendary ‘Kalamkari’ tradition. ‘Kalam’ means ‘pen’ and ‘kari’ means ‘craftsmanship’ and the artist uses wooden or bamboo hand-crafted pens dipped in natural pigments to paint on the fine pashmina.
Master craftsmen working with great skill and patience, use thin needles to create the precise patterns, and the process can take months, even years. A layer of incredibly fine stitches have been added to accentuate the motifs, using a technique called ‘Sozni’. The result is an amazing, intricate and rich tapestry of colour that is art and craft in equal part.
Hand Spun, Hand Woven
Dry Clean Only
Varana's pashmina is crafted from the finest, purest cashmere obtained from the soft undercoat of the Changthani goats in the Himalayan region. So fine is the wool that it must be gathered, spun and woven by hand. The master craftspeople involved at each step of the process are exceptionally skilled.
The techniques of pashmina shawl weaving and embroidering have been passed on from generation to generation and now only a handful of these skilled artisans are the custodians of this amazing craft.
