RUST HAND-PAINTED EMBROIDERED PASHMINA
Treat yourself to a gift with beauty and meaning this season. This lovely shawl has been crafted from the finest pashmina in a palette of earthy tones.
The geometric motifs and paisleys have been hand-painted on the shawl in the 'Kalamkari' tradition by a master artisan. (‘Kalam’ means ‘pen’ and ‘kari’ means ‘craftsmanship’). The 'kalamkar' or artist has used hand-crafted bamboo pens and natural vegetable-based pigments to create this stunning, intricate pattern.
Multi-coloured threads have been used to hand-embroider and accentuate the painted motifs using the 'Sozni' technique. This technique uses very fine needles and requires great skill and patience. The techniques of 'Kalamkari' and 'Sozni' have been passed on from generation to generation and now only a handful of skilled artisans are the custodians of these amazing crafts.
A sold, red cashmere dress is the perfect foil for this richly-worked shawl.

Varana's pashmina is crafted from the finest, purest cashmere obtained from the soft undercoat of the Changthani goats in the Himalayan region. So fine is the wool that it must be gathered, spun and woven by hand. The master craftspeople involved at each step of the process are exceptionally skilled.
